The Human Walk | Early Birds and Wyrms

Wow…how time flies. You, people, haven’t heard from me here since September!!! As I sit and ponder the passage of time, I realize what we can talk about today…

Time…

I’ve never thought of myself as a morning person. Most mornings the mug that greets me in the bathroom mirror isn’t too nice.

Yeah...something like that.

Yeah…something like that.

But since I’ve been working this gig that has me up at five every morning, I get to see the sunrise, and I gotta say I like it.
Don’t get me wrong, I like to sleep in just as much as the next guy, but I know the days of sleeping till way past noon are over. At my age, it hurts more to stay in bed than to get out. If you ask me, that’s all kinds of fucked up. If someone had told me at 18 that getting older would really be about cataloging and carrying around a litany of pains…till you shuffle off your mortal coil…I simply wouldn’t have believed them. But here I am, and now I know. Ah well, we play the cards we’re dealt, right?

Back to the sunrise. I’m sitting here watching it, as I type this, and I am gobsmacked. Struck with intense awe at the majesty, the power, and beauty of this simple event that occurs right under our noses EVERY DAY!

I wonder how many other ginormous things occur around me every day that I’m missing a full appreciation of? Miracles of nature like the tide coming and going, the wind (where DOES that shit come from?), birds in flight.

I think the Human Race should be renamed to the Human Walk.

We need to slow down, and N-O-T-I-C-E what is going on around us. I can only speak for myself, but I find that if I notice things, I tend to appreciate them. And if I appreciate them, then I value them more. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the global societies doing the most damage to the earth, are the fast ones. The humans that are racing through their day, literally dying to get to a finish line that is as imaginary as they claim Global Warming is.

Daily life should not be an Ironman marathon.

Daily life should not be an Ironman marathon.

In the past, I would have thought I was preaching to the converted here as most who read my little blog are probably like-minded, but with the recent political results highlighting such an extreme divide in America and this seemingly coming as such a surprise to so many, I probably shouldn’t take anything for granted and certainly shouldn’t make any societal assumptions any longer.

My ‘ole teacher used to say there would come a ‘Time of Shadow’ when our global societies collective Shadow would be revealed for all to see. But I digress again, I don’t want to go down that road here. I think that is a story for another time and I’ll try covering it in some detail in anther post.

So until then, let’s all try to slow down a little bit, appreciate the nature around us, opt out of the Human Race and contribute to the Human Walk.
