Lately I’ve gone back to the practice of daily meditation. I guess they call it a practice because there’s no right way to do it. I don’t think you’re meant to unlock the meditation achievement badge and be done. It seems more dynamic than that. Meditation and visualization has meant different things to me at different times in my life. When I was younger I may have thought there was some ultimate goal or switch I could flip in my mind then BAM! mutant abilities. But these days, meditation and power building, feels more like a gentle mental laxative. A nice way to keep the brain regular and not get it all backed up with clots of mental junk food.
I know, not the zen mojo description of enlightenment you were looking for. Well hey…they can’t all be gems.
Thing is, I’ve been on a pretty consistent path to Mojo and phenomenal superpowers for as long as I can remember. That’s the catch.
The path hasn’t changed…but I have.
It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Kerouac.
“My manners, abominable at times, can be sweet. As I grew older I became a drunk. Why? Because I like ecstasy of the mind. I’m a wretch. But I love, love.”
— Jack Kerouac
I think my point here is that my old teacher was right when she said that everything has a spirit and everything changes shape. Seems to me from this 47 year old seat in the stands that, it’s all about perspective. From the phrases we say, to our daily habits, to literal, physical things…they all change as we change. Reality really is that mutable. I don’t think I’m being metaphorical here. I think I’m asking a very serious question…
“What if our perception of reality, determines that reality?”— Russ Viola
Yes, I just quoted myself. I’m an old man now (nearly dead)…get over it.
If you’re interested, something will be hitting the streets on Summer Solstice (June 19th for the uninitiated and those too lazy to use The Google.) If you’re on my mailing list, you’re already in the know.
Audio books, trilogies, novellas…Soon there’ll be movie rights negotiations and George R.R. Martin sleeping on my couch! If you want to keep up with the latest writerly news in the world of Russ Viola, there’s a widget at the bottom of this page that says: Let’s keep in touch. Put your email address in the box next to it and Join Team Mojo. I promise to be worthy of your trust and keep you informed of my shenanigans.
